Song Tip Tuesday #4 – Think of the Singer

Today’s Song Tip Tuesday is a very important songwriting observation:

Remember, a song is SUNG.
You should think of the SINGER when writing it.

If your song has vocal leaps that cross the great divide, it is unlikely that a vocalist will be able to sing the song with confidence. So, as you are writing, sing your songs, make sure you are not making your vocalist do vocal gymnastics. If this happens, for sure, the feeling of the song will get lost in the leap.
Think about it!

So, here’s to writing songs that can be sung.
The art of writing is rewriting.
